Our first reader submission comes from Desiree and Brett who were married on October 10th, 2010 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church in Ronkonkoma with a reception that followed at the Hamlet Wind Watch Golf & Country Club in Hauppauge. Desiree is a Long Island native while Brett comes from Northern California with roots in Florida. They met (romantically enough) in Hawaii, while Desiree was involved with Teach for America and Brett was a submariner in the Navy. They have conquered both time apart (when Brett was underway) and coming from different backgrounds, but one thing always remains the same – their strong love for one another.

‘A song can evoke so many emotions and can create a mood each time it is heard. Both my husband and I love music, only problem is that he’s a lotta bit Country and I am a little bit Rock n’ Roll – so naturally, our wedding song could be no exception to our personalities. One day I was coming home from work and he was standing outside his Jeep, blasting music.
He told me I couldn’t go inside, because there was a song coming on that I would love. After a few impatient minutes, the radio finally played the song – it was by country music artist Heidi Newfield, called “Johnny & June” and was based on the love story of Johnny Cash and June Carter. At first I thought it was a little too country for my taste, but as the song progressed I listened to the message and the rock undertones. We danced around like morons in our driveway to it and that’s when I knew that this song said it all. We really do want to love like Johnny and June.’
