{fab friday recap} ocean bleu, sisterly love, another first day, cupcakes & yard sale

YAY – it is our first Friday recap!  It’s about time too – yes we are CRAZY busy, and yes it’s hard to get this all down on the blog every week, but we have a front row seat to the wedding industry on LI and want our readers to be a part of it.  We will do this as often as possible, sharing favorite items we’ve found, discussed or loved after scouring the internet all week, or witnessed firsthand.  We share most of it on Facebook on Twitter, so follow us there too, and stay in the loop!

Athy & Jimmy’s Wedding

We were thrilled Tuesday, when Laura from LA Productions emailed Heidi (Sugar Magnolias) that Mindy & Rich of Verdi Photography had provided a sneak peek of Athy & Jimmy’s 9.10.11 wedding on their blog.  Saturday was a perfect day for such an unbelievable location, (Oceanbleu in Westhampton Beach) and the entire Sugar Magnolias team was on hand to help make this day perfect, along with Verdi Photography and LA Productions.

Athy carried a bouquet of veronica, ivy and gardenias(!!!).  Gardenias are a beyond amazing, but VERY fragile flowers – the oil from our skin will turn these beautiful blooms yellow almost immediately if touched.  Heidi gave Athy a quick pep talk when handing the bouquet to her: ‘Don’t even let someone smell them, in case they touch them with their nose!’  Hehehe!  From the pictures though, it looks like they were handled with perfect care.  Athy and Jimmy made a gorgeous couple and we were floored by Athy’s daughter’s gown – she looked amazing!

Athy’s bridesmaid’s carried bouquets of green & soft blue hydrangea and cream Polo roses – the groomsmen had boutonnieres of cream Escimo roses and ivy.

The same color palate was used throughout the ceremony and reception, complimenting the surroundings perfectly.  Hydrangea and Polo roses are such lush flowers – they just seem to float around the ceremony and above the tables, right?  A dreamy wedding indeed.

I can’t tell you enough how AWESOME it is to work with other amazing vendors.  Our most favorite hair designer, Nicole D’Angio, was on hand as well, to make Athy and her ladies look as lovely as can be.  I am always so excited to see Nicole – she greets you with the biggest smile and hug every time, without fail – LOVE her!
Ocean Bleu was previously known as Atlantica, so with the new ownership, we were interested in seeing who would be in charge when we got there – it is almost always a reflection of how smoothly the day will go.  We were thrilled to meet Jeff (captured perfectly above, with that grand-looking cake) and his assistant Jodi, who were beyond sweet and accommodating.  We look forward to working with them again in the future.

First Day Films: Dana & Danny

Dana and Danny from John Miller on Vimeo.

John Miller of First Day Films is a FANTASTIC videographer – he also, in my opinion, has a great ability to pair his videos with the coolest music.  I’m a big fan of alternative rock and it seems John is as well – especially when he shared his latest video that included MGMT’s ‘Electric Feel’.  The video, of course rocked – and who would’ve known that song could totally work?  Wedding videography has certainly come a long, long way my friends.

Christina Bohn’s ‘Sister Luv’

Whether they are your sisters, or like one, this photo from Ashleigh and Paul’s wedding of Ashleigh and her sisters had stuck with me while I was choosing photos to feature for their ‘real wedding’ post – probably because I am reminded of the bond I have with my own.  Christina is BRILLIANT at capturing these moments – she can exhibit so much emotion in a single shot.  I am so glad she chose to share it on her blog this week!

Cupcake Girlz

Um HELLO – do you SEE these cupcakes?  OK good, then I’m not dreaming!  Canoli & whipped cream on the left and pumpkin spice on right.  I was so excited to learn two things about Cupcake Girlz: first, they will be at the Sayville Farmer’s Market this Saturday (September 17th) with both of these amazin’ sounding (and looking) flavors, and second, they are opening a store in Farmingville this month – one way or another, MML will be checking them out!  You go Girlz! xoxo
